ABOUT PET-MRI

What is a PET-MRI Scan?

PET-MRI (Positron Emission Tomography–Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is an advanced hybrid imaging technique that combines PET and MRI in a single examination.

PET provides information about metabolic or biological activity within tissues, while MRI produces highly detailed images of soft tissues and anatomical structures. Combining these two types of information can provide doctors with a more comprehensive view of certain medical conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

PET-MRI imaging is a state-of-the-art examination of a hybrid nature which integrates the features of PET functional imaging and MRI anatomical imaging. AASA Labs offers PET-MRI imaging for certain clinical and diagnostic needs.

While PET-MRI consists of PET imaging and MRI, PET-CT includes PET imaging and CT imaging. PET-MRI is able to offer exceptional soft tissue details and does not involve ionizing radiation characteristic for CT, although the PET part involves a radioactive tracer.

In case your doctor needs information on metabolism and soft tissues as well, you may undergo PET-MRI imaging. It is applied in certain oncological, neurologic, and other medical cases.

Duration of the procedure is dependent on type of PET tracer used, preparation time, uptake period, and MRI protocol. The approximate length of your procedure will be provided by AASA Labs when booking your examination.

Whether you will have to fast or not before the examination will depend on the tracer used and the protocol of the procedure itself. Please follow the instructions offered by AASA Labs before your procedure.

PET-MRI uses a radioactive tracer for PET imaging, and a magnetic field and radio waves for MRI imaging. Thus, AASA Labs will follow the necessary safety protocols when performing the procedure.

Certain implants may be MR-compatible and some of them may not be. Let the specialists at AASA Labs know about all your implants, devices, and surgeries previously undergone by you.
